The overall performance of a battery pack depends on its weakest cell. Grade A cells are the absolute starting point for a high-quality battery pack.
Grade A cells signify an extremely low defect rate and high consistency (in capacity and internal resistance). Battery manufacturers use “capacity grading” tests to group cells with nearly identical performance. This ensures that the battery pack avoids the “short-board effect” during cycling. Although Grade B or C cells are cheaper, their poor consistency can easily lead to premature failure of the entire battery pack and even pose safety risks.
