Should the battery be buried underground or mounted on the pole? Conventional wisdom suggests burial is safer, but this is often the only choice due to the bulkiness of gel batteries. Burial pits are prone to water accumulation, corroding terminals, and if a fault occurs, it requires costly “digging up” for maintenance. SMTK LiFePO4 Batteries, with their IP67-rated waterproof housing (protection against immersion) and lightweight design (12V100Ah weighs approximately 11kg), strongly recommend pole-mounted installation. Mounting the battery case on the shaded lower-middle section of the pole not only eliminates flood risk but also allows for maintenance by simply opening an access panel, with replacement possible in 5 minutes. Our battery housing uses thickened aluminum alloy with powder coating, providing rust and theft resistance, perfectly suited for high-salt-spray coastal environments (e.g., Sydney).
